MPAA head Dan Glickman sent a letter yesterday to both Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and to US Trade Representative Ron Kirk in which he called for a serious US push to pass the secretive Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement.

MONTPELIER, Vt. Federal immigration officials are cracking down on Vermont dairy farmers asking them to provide records to prove their workers are legal.
Kelly Loftus, a spokeswoman for the state Agency of Agriculture, says immigration officials visited four farms on Thursday.
She says the news creates another level of anxiety and stress for the state's dairy farmers, many of whom are on the brink because of low milk prices.

At a Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday, members discussed the Free Flow of Information Act of 2009, also known at the federal shield law bill, but did not bring the bill to a vote as had been planned.

The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee has approved the nomination of a Vermont state judge to become the state's next federal judge.
The office of U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy says the nomination of Judge Christina Reiss of Essex Junction was passed Thursday without discussion on a voice vote.
The nomination must now be confirmed by the full Senate.

The Senate on Thursday confirmed U.S. District Judge David Hamilton for the Chicago-based federal appeals court, approving a nominee targeted by conservatives as a liberal activist.
Hamilton was approved on a 59-39 vote and became the eighth of President Barack Obama's judicial nominees to win confirmation.
He is the third confirmed for a U.S. appeals court, which is usually the last stop for federal court cases.
